They grow up so fast, don’t they? Before you know it, your baby is moving around on their own and you’re desperately trying to keep them from running off. When your baby becomes a toddler, one of the things you might start to think about is turning the nursery into a toddler’s bedroom. There might not be a huge amount of difference between the two, but there are definitely a few changes you can make if you want to make the room just a little bit more grown-up. If your toddler is ready for a “big kid” bedroom, here are some changes you might want to make.
Order a Toddler Bed
You might have a crib that’s easy to convert into a toddler bed in your toddler’s room. This can often be the easiest way to make the transition, but it’s not always a possibility. Maybe you want to use the crib for a baby that’s on the way (or has already arrived) or you just don’t have a convertible crib. If you need to buy a bed, ordering online is often the easiest way to do it. When you’re a busy parent, it saves time to have it delivered. But if you want to give your toddler a say, you might want to go shopping together to find the right bed.
Pack Up Unneeded Items
There are probably some things that you don’t need or want anymore, now that your little one is getting bigger. This could include clothes, toys, or even furniture. Packing them up and choosing what to do with them will help to clear space. You could put some things in box storage, ready for your next baby. Or you could give some things away to friends or family members who might find a use for them. Selling or donating items is a good idea too.
Create Room for Playing
Now that your toddler is a bit more independent, having space to play in their bedroom is smart. You can make sure they have somewhere to play on their own and places for their toys to be stored too. When you clear away some of the clutter that you no longer need, this will help to create some more space that can be used for playing. Set a safe space that allows your toddler to explore and learn to play, whether on their own or with friends.
Make It Toddler-Friendly
Helping your toddler to become a tiny bit more independent means ensuring their toddler’s room is suitable for their needs. It’s helpful if your toddler can reach some of the things that they might want, for example. If you can put toys and books at their level, they can easily reach for them and enjoy them whenever they want to. Of course, there might be some things that you want to put out of reach. Toddler-sized furniture, such as a small table and chairs, is a good idea too.
When your baby is getting bigger, make sure their bedroom is fit for a growing child too by updating the nursery.
