What NY State Fair competitions are happening in 2021? (Fair FAQ)

Geddes, N.Y. — There will be fewer competitions at the 2021 New York State Fair, but the schedule is hardly empty.

So far, the list of contests still happening includes:

  • Antique tractors
  • Photography
  • Fine art
  • Dairy products
  • Bucket of Junk

The photography and fine art events both include multiple categories.

Photographers, for example, can compete with black and white or color prints or in a nontraditional category with methods like collage. There are separate divisions for professionals, amateurs and youths.

The fine arts contest will include painting, drawing, sculpting and more for amateurs, professionals and youths. There are separate categories for wildlife art.

The Bucket of Junk competition requires entrants to create a sculpture using items in a bucket the fair provides.

Entries from the Bucket of Junk, fine art and photography competitions will be displayed at the Art and Home Center.

The dairy products contest covers yogurt, multiple types of cheese, sour cream, buttermilk and more.

The fair also has a full slate of animal competitions taking place. Details on all of this year’s fair competitions can be found online.

The quilting, culinary, floriculture, Christmas tree and poetry competitions are not happening this year. The youth talent competition also is not happening.

Any events associated with 4-H and FFA are off. Those groups decided months ago not to come this year, fair spokesman Dave Bullard said. The entire Youth Building will be closed.

The Witter Agricultural and Carriage museums will be closed as well. And while the Art and Home Center is open, the Demonstration Kitchen and Empire Theater will be closed.
