A new photography exhibit is opening at the Salina Art Center this week, with a reception on Friday night.
“GLOSSY • BRIGHT • COLORFUL” by Geroge Jerkovich opens Wednesday in the South Gallery at the art center, 242 S. Santa Fe Ave.
Admission to the center is free with summer hours being 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays.
An opening reception for the exhibit will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday.
George Jerkovich is a noted regional photographer. He regularly participates in area exhibits, and his work is represented in many corporate and private collections.
The exhibit features nine large-format photographs printed on metal. Each piece showcases automotive details of a different customized car.
Jerkovich said color and form are the most important aspects of his work and this exhibit includes a large spectrum of warm colors, something he favors over cool colors, with the metal substrate making them “glossy, bright and colorful.”
Normally a landscape photographer, George admits that he is “not a car guy” but that he does admire the color, form, and craft of restored cars. In his photography, the process is just as important to him as the final image.
